Basic Press Release
Basic information about Media Carrier GmbH
Media Carrier GmbH was founded at the end of 2011 and has its headquarters in Munich. It specialises in the marketing and distribution of digital content. Its main product is Media Box, a virtual library containing national and international newspapers and magazines for downloading. Managing directors of Media Carrier are Holger Bingmann and Philipp J. Jacke. The company has a subsidiary in London and is represented through its international partner network in the core markets of Europe, the USA, Russia, the Gulf States and Asia. Media Carrier currently has fourteen employees. The young company is a member of the MELO Group. A further division of Media Carrier is the brand Special Places with headquarters in Hamburg, market leader in the individual distribution of print media.
The MELO Group, in which the Munich-based press wholesaler Trunk was transferred in 2015, focuses on media and logistics for all business activities. The Group currently has over 2,000 employees at twenty locations in six countries.
Media Box is a Software as a Service (SaaS) product that can be integrated in any company anywhere in the world. It can be used by service providers to offer customers and guests a special service with the latest quality reading while they are travelling or waiting. It is thus ideal for tourism service providers like the hotel industry, and for airline, railway, bus and shipping companies, airports or restaurants, but also for hospitals, out-patient clinics or public buildings. Within large companies, Media Box can replace the classic print circulation system and ensure that employees have up-to-date articles relevant to them anywhere and at any time.
The selection of international newspapers and magazines currently comprises around 600 quality media, including international daily newspapers like The Times, Neue Züricher Zeitung, La Repubblica, Hürriyet and Le Figaro and business publications like the Financial Times. Among the German media in the portfolio are Die Welt, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Die Zeit and Süddeutsche Zeitung, as well as well-known regional newspapers like Rheinische Post, Berliner Zeitung and Hamburger Morgenpost.
Among others, the German magazines include Stern, Gala and Spiegel, and the international selection covers the German, Italian and Russian editions of Vogue, Glamour and GQ, Fujingaho Japan and the Chinese Auto Motor and Sport.
Media Carrier can also create a customised selection from its portfolio adapted to the clients’ structure so as to guarantee optimum utilisation in this way. As a white-label solution, the digital library can be presented in a specific corporate design and incorporated in the company’s system. Media Carrier takes care of ePaper utilisation rights and the entire technical organisation, from the installation of Media Box to the design, integration in the WLAN and further development. Personal access to the back-office system ensures transparency for customers and publishing houses alike. Information can be provided on the number of downloads and access times as well as on the operating systems and most popular titles. The latter shows the titles that are most read and those that are used less frequently, enabling ongoing adaptation of the individual selection to the user groups.
In addition to the digital newspapers and magazines, further content can be added to Media Box in the form of advertising aids and magazines for presentations to customers and guests, for example, or company news, staff information or canteen menus, when Media Box is being used as an internal information tool.
How does the Media Box function for the user?
Media Box is web-based and can therefore be used with any Internet-enabled device – iPhone, iPad, Android or tablet PC and notebook. The user does not have to install an app or register personal data but simply connects the device to the local WLAN. The start page offers a link to Media Box, where the newspapers and magazines are to be found. The desired publications can then be downloaded with a mouse click. They are available in PDF format with the same structure and content as the print version. Individual articles can be magnified, and the pages scrolled or swiped.
Advantages of digital reading
Regardless of how many people want to read a magazine simultaneously, ePapers are never sold out. The electronic versions of the media do not have to be set out or disposed of. They save time and resources and are environmentally friendly. International titles are also available on the day of issue because there are no transport logistics to organise. In aeroplanes ePaper helps to reduce weight, kerosene consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. Publishing houses also have the possibility of following their readers beyond the limits of the classical catchment area and of opening up new reader markets without any printing or logistics costs.
